Coach Phil grew up wanting to be a pro baseball player. He was offered multiple DI scholarships and chose to attend Ohio University where he became a 3-year full-time starter as an outfielder or catcher. Despite multiple opportunities to pursue pro baseball, Coach Phil decided instead to take a full ride scholarship to earn his Masters in Strength and Conditioning.

“During that time, I was learning a ton of different principles and techniques, and had a mentor who decided that I would be a successful weightlifter if I developed a passion for it. He started me with basic technique and programming, and in my first ever meet, I qualified for the USAW American Open. From there, I was hooked on the sport and training, and I went on to win a bunch of National medals, including winning the 2009 American Open, 2010 National Championships, and was a 3x member of Team USA for international events. In 2012, I finished 5th overall in the USAW Olympic Games ranking. I am still Nationally competitive and am training hard to win more medals!”

While Coach Phil has some awesome athletic accomplishments, he still says his greatest accomplishment is his family. “I have been married to my wife, Erica, for 6 years, and we have 2 daughters, Marielle (4) and Daniella (2). I also play lead guitar in a Pop/Modern-Funk band, “Suburban Sunday”. Come out and listen to us jam!”
